X One Design
The X One Design (XOD) originated in 1907 and remains a robust 21-foot ¾ decked keelboat, with some boats from 1911 still actively racing. Its timeless design accommodates sailors of all ages, undergoing modernization like transitioning from Gaff to Bermuda rig and allowing Epoxy use. This evolution revitalizes older boats to compete on par with newer ones. With nearly 200 boats concentrated between Poole and Itchenor, it stands as the premier South Coast One Design class. Ownership costs are manageable, and epoxy-coated hulls minimise maintenance. Unlike many modern racing yachts, XODs endure, ensuring lasting competitiveness.

RLymYC XOD Fleet
The Lymington XOD Fleet, under the Royal Lymington Yacht Club burgee, enjoys heritage moorings on the East side of the river, creating a picturesque scene. From family sailors to Olympic contenders, racing offers excitement for all. With over 40 active boats, the XOD fleet boasts intense competition at the club, fostering camaraderie among sailors. Experienced racers readily assist newcomers and those seeking performance improvements. Even the most accomplished owners encounter challenges fine-tuning their XODs. Post-race tea gatherings on Saturday and Wednesday afternoons provide a friendly atmosphere for competitors and race officials to unwind and share stories.
